About Us
Founded in 1976, Warwick Bears Ultimate Frisbee Club was among the first
teams to arrive on non-American shores. Now just past its 30th Anniversary year,
the Bears have become the longest surviving team in Europe, and among the
oldest in the world.
Over the years the club has enjoyed varying amounts of success, having won
both regional and national titles several times, and always being
represented at National-level competitions, in open, women's and mixed
divisions.
Warwick Bears are also famous for our packed social calendar, with weekly
instalments of fun and frolics for all, organised by our hard-working
soical sec. Activities range from "circle" in the Union to ice-skating,
bowling, disco golf, paintball and many more.
2006/2007 marked the recognition of Ultimate Frisbee by BUSA. What has
always been a fast-paced, athletic team-sport now finally has the
recognition it deserves. No longer can it be accused of not being a 'real'
sport!
What is Ultimate? Ultimate Frisbee is usually described as a cross between
American Football and Netball. It is turn-based and played on a pitch with
end-zones, like the former, and is non-contact and involves setting a
pivot point, like the latter. Played both indoors and outdoors, it is open
to anyone, male or female (or anywhere in between), regardless of
experience, and gives you the chance to play all over the UK and even
abroad, in what are arguably the most fun tournaments around.
